A Message from the spider Queen

The hardest part is knowing exactly when To let change happen. Refuse to plant your feet and fight the storm.
Or let go and trust yourself and God to carry you through.

Change will happen. Change brings pain. And pain.... Demands that it be felt.

Sadly we have to be apart of that, And it can happen like that at any time.

Pain changes people. It makes them feel too much and they beg to become numb to the steely feeling of pains violating shards. Like glass pain severed and gouged my former self until she lay bleeding on the ground. That day I quit.... I quit allowing people to under value me. I learned to find confidence and value in myself. If I’m my own best critic then I am the one I should be trying to be. Always be yourself.... who ever that is...  I am super excited to meet all of you positive social change Monsters. Annabelle Comes Home Artifact Tour AZ June 23rd 2019  Review

Picture
Annabelle Comes Home Artifact Tour June 23rd. I wish there was any entertainment in line for this. They really could have done much more. The staff also could have been in character and made it more real and entertaining. You are promoting this movie use every single minute you have with your audience and
make a GOOD lasting impression.
No TV playing a trailer, no actors, no characters, no line/audience involvement noting. The truck its self was kinda cool, but no Annabelle doll just an illusion of her. Because of the disappointment of most of the audience, you may get people not wanting to see the movie or boycott it. People time is valuable, and stealing it from them is wrong, and being dishonest and misleading is wrong and hurtful. I hope you all can learn from this and grow. Thanks to me and my silliness and being my own entertainer I was able to have fun, but my friend and hearing others around me they were not having fun and getting upset. Annabelle being as big as she is, and getting the long lines means something, and you all
messed it up, and even hurt people. Not cool!

Good news for disappointed fans who attended
the 'Annabelle Comes Home' event in Phoenix

Guests showed up to the "Annabelle Comes Home" truck tour expecting to see the horror-movie doll in real life.

Well, they didn't. Instead, a projection of the doll was featured, which left some people feeling, well, horribly disappointed.
Warner Brothers listened. Now, there will be two chances to see a replica of the creepy "Conjuring" franchise's iconic doll.
"We are going to offer a solution for people who want to see the doll," says senior account executive Patrick Brogan of Allied Global Marketing.
Brogan says guests can get another chance to see Annabelle at the horror-themed convention Mad Monster Party from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30. Guests will have to pay $30-$70 for weekend convention admission to see the doll at We-Ko-Pa Resort.
Want more stories about the best things to do, eat and see in the Valley? Subscribe to azcentral.com for guides, reviews and expert advice.
Fans can also see Annabelle for free late at night at Harkins Tempe Marketplace. From Saturday, June 29, from 8 p.m. to close and Sunday, June 30, from 6 p.m. to close, guests can take selfies with the doll as she sits behind a protective glass case guarded by security.
"People are welcome to come to Harkins Tempe Marketplace to see the doll, take photos," Brogan says. "They just can't touch the doll."

Picture
Where was Annabelle in Phoenix?Due to miscommunication between Warner Brothers and Allied Global Marketing, it turns out the Annabelle prop doll from the "Conjuring" franchise was not at the free "Annabelle Comes Home" truck tour stop on Saturdayand Sunday at Chase Field.
To be transparent, The Arizona Republic reported information from a press release that the event would be at Cityscape, and the doll would be at the event to celebrate the premiere of "Annabelle Comes Home," in theaters June 26.

Fans line up for a scary encounter with Annabelle Patrick Breen, Arizona Republic
Even though it was confirmed before publishing the original story that the real prop would be there, only a projection of the creepy artifact made a ghoulish appearance.
In the truck, azcentral.com reporter Kerry Lengel says that there were "various old and spooky-looking objects line the shelves, and some of them come to life as you walk past. Several artifacts, including an old wedding dress and a suit of samurai armor, figure prominently in the new film."

Aren Dullas from Tempe says it took five hours for her and her friends to get into the truck.
"I know people were kind of mad because they thought something was supposed to happen when they saw Annabelle," she says. "So it was like, 'What the heck did we actually wait for?' Personally, I wouldn't have waited in line. I'm not mad because I know news articles can be falsely reported."

"Annabelle Comes Home" follows the story of a babysitter who unknowingly finds herself in a night of terror as Annabelle and other demonic artifacts target Ed and Lorraine Warren's daughter.
Mad Monster Party ArizonaWhen: 6-11 p.m., Friday, June 28. 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday, June 29. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, June 30.

"EPIC HOME HAUNTS ” DOCUMENTARY Review

"EPIC HOME HAUNTS ” DOCUMENTARY Review By Sydoney A.A. Banks
Epic Home Haunts is a documentary showcasing the terrifying talent lurking next door, epic people creating the world's most epic Halloween Haunts in their own backyards! www.epichomehaunts.com

This documentary was very insightful and educational.
The footage was educational and interesting and being able to see all the different Haunts from the film jumping one to another.

I love documentaries or any kind of video that highlights The Haunted Attraction Industry.  I love how they refer to Haunts as artwork because it more often than not contains spectacular artwork of one form or many others.  It got me thinking of how true that is, and how most people would not see or believe that, but it is true just ask those who create the reality by art and performances.  It takes so much to create and to man a haunt including the skill, time, effort, energy, creativity, persistence, hard work, blood, sweat, tears, anxiety, recruiting, and money to mention a few necessities that do go into these haunts to make them a reality if even just for one night a year.  They work all year on planning, purchasing, designing, building and creating these awesome walkthrough
sets with so much heart, detail, and work it is absolutely beautiful
and inspiring to see and to dream of creating one for your own.

Some haunters, have had little or no experience in making Professional Haunt sets or they have been doing it for years since they were young.  It takes all types of people to just do it and make it look like they have been doing it for years and even
like something Disney or Universal Studios.  Some are even self-taught
so watch youtube or look for help on the world wide web.

I love hearing the stories and getting to learn about some of these amazing haunters and what they do, what they been through with some of their struggles, how they got started, and how they love what they do, and are so driven and committed to their craft.  I really liked how they showed they are human just like you and me and how these
haunters are kind, caring individuals and are not some kind
of evil, horrific monsters. It nice to see the humanity they show and
how most of them have even helped charities in their community.

Sadly, there are some "Haunts" that are what they call "extreme haunts" and they are not at all the same or anything remotely like any well-done responsible Haunted Attraction; they are more intense, hardcore, involve actual touching and they may even cause patrons actual harm -- they are not the same as haunts done for fun for all.  Some of these "extreme haunts" are giving regular Haunts a bad name
and making a negative name on the haunt industry.

This Documentary is one of my favorites and
I admire and look up to these amazing Haunters and everything they do!
You wonderful talented Haunters are amazing and inspiring to young Haunters like me and I am so grateful for all you have done and do!  You all make a positive impact on your community and I would even say the world.  I wish the AZ community was more like your communities.  A fair bit of AZ is not as friendly and accepting and helpful to other haunters, but maybe it can and hopefully it will change and become more welcoming and accepting to all who wish to haunt responsibly.

Speaking of young Haunters, I love the young man who is living his dream and doing what he loves and seeing what the future has for haunts.  It was nice to see the other seasoned haunters talk about him and what he is doing and how he is the future and how with technology and everything we have now available that the industry going to change and take off even more.  I do hope some of the old tricks and ways used before will stay as well.  It is great to see this young man and to hear his parents talk about him and how proud they are and how they support him.  I hope more parents see this and if their kids are the same, that they will hopefully help and support there kids choices and dreams whether they wish to be a haunter or something else it is what they
want to be.  I thought that was put in a good place in the
documentary -- towards the end -- to end it with the future.

I started doing haunts at 15 years old and now I am in my twenties and my life's dream and goal is to have a haunted attraction and use it to make a difference in the world, like Sydney Neal did with Rocky Point Haunted House for over 20 years and the one haunt that saved my life was in AZ called "The Haunting Haunted House".  I hope everyone that sees this documentary will learn more about haunts and how much goes into them and how not all Haunters are mean, evil, scary, out to get rich people, but kind, caring, out for fun for all, gifted people like you and the only difference is
that they truly LOVE Halloween and they are amazing people.

The only thing that I could say that needs improvement in this documentary is the inclusiveness and the diversity of haunts in this state and even in other states in the USA showing more of the differences in the United States and in the communities in those states.  That is the only thing I think would be great to see,
so I hope there will be a next time including more diversity.

So if you have not seen Epic Home Haunts please do; it is a must see and who knows -- you might even get bit by the haunt bug yourself.  Happy Haunting!
I give it a 10 out of 10.
-Syd

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING and HAVE A HAPPY HAUNTING!!!

CHASM ** a deep, dark, fissure in the center of the earth, that will take you deep
into the abyss of all the unforeseen monsters and vermin; far below.  You may even see the obsolete, horrendous, creature known to all of us asDeJecTion.

Will 'YOU' ever be able to make it out......ALIVE?    WILL YOU?

ARACHNIDIA ** Now, you have found your way through the horrifically, terrifying Chasm.  As you enter the next cave of the most unnatural wonders, you must make your way through the darkness; you know that you have only one reason for doing this.
There’s a hidden treasure in the world and only ONE obstacle in your path; it is our Maliciously Vicious Spider Queen.  She loves the taste of warm, fresh, human blood and she loves ALL offerings of the humankind.  Decide quickly, on what OR Whom you will sacrifice as you approach her inviting, welcoming, entertaining lair. She is unforgiving of "spur of the moment" visitors.  She requires just one of your beloved companions from your group to secure safe passage out of the underworld; to the treasure that awaits you just beyond her twisted, supernatural, wonderland.  Do not attempt to fall in love with her, for she has no desire to love you; she only desires the kill of the offering you sacrifice to her for your departure from her lair.  Can you find the treasure and make it out - ALIVE?
Can you?  WILL YOU?  Well, we will see!!

UZA along with Synyster Syn, Mycreation and OddIty want to make a positive impact on the world. We want to change lives to the betterment of themselves and the community and beyond! Bullying can bring on depression, anxiety, pain, mental issues, suicide and more. OddIty wants to change that, so help us to help others. Let's make positive social change together! Thank you so much for your love and support, it really means the world to us!

Oddity is an anti-bullying group designed to teach young or ALL people a positive response to bullying. It is our intention to share the tools available with others to gain their own individuality and courage to be their own best self and in turn to find the confidence and courage to learn to help others find the same for themselves. We will use a series of improv and other theatrical teachings to give young people the courage they need to become the real and true them. Oddity is for any kid, young and old alike, that has been bullied, abused, or picked on by other people or maybe has even been a bully themselves to others. Oddity is an organization for people that have felt that they have never, really, ever, had any safe or welcoming place to belong.
OUR GOAL: It is our goal to go to various venues to start teaching all interested kids at any age how to establish confidence without needing to break other kids down or to be put down by others. It is imperative that we teach all people, especially the young people of today, the value of their lives and how they can impact their future, as well as, the future of many others. We intend to show others that it is better to be nice to all people and to accept each other for the individuals that each of us is. It is okay to be different because every one of us is unique and beautiful. It is okay to be your own normal because you are your very own “YOU”.
To start this amazing program, we are going to need financial help. We need to raise $1000, to enable us to get this charity off the ground. Once this happens, we can start helping young people to combat and overcome bullying. We are asking for you to donate as small as $1 to help us fund our cause and to help us try to eliminate bullying -- one child at a time. Your donation will go to help us become a non-profit organization. We will use the non-profit to better our community and the people that live in it.

Diversity and Communication

Diversity and Communication by Sydoney. A.A. Banks

Picture
Communication can be difficult because we all have our own specific perceptions of understanding.  During the 1960s and the 1970s, the term diversity meant differences based on race, sex, national origin, and religion (Mayhew 1).  Over the past fifty years, the term diversity has changed to include more in the definition of diversity (Mayhew 1).
Picture
People do have differences and these differences can be broken down into primary and secondary types of diversity: the primary category - includes visible differences such as gender, ethnic origin, and age and the secondary category - includes less obvious differences such as class, sexuality, disability, and work style (UWE 1).  Culture is many differences occurring within behavior, lifestyles, customs, and habits that embrace tradition going back generations (UWE 1).
Picture
Diversity is a concept that embraces a wide range of characteristics including:  language, 'race', ethnic background, dress, values, age, gender, educational background, class, religious observances, political interest, notions about social and community responsibilities, employment and economic status, mental and physical disabilities (UWE 1).  Diversity, or difference, is a central feature of modern existence, partly because of interaction between cultures; partly for historical reasons; and partly through the growth of international communications technology and we need to be aware and accepting of differences it we want to reap the benefits that naturally flow from diversity (UWE 1).  Diversity brings new skills and fresh ideas and recognise and celebrate the strengths and positives of diversity (UWE 1).
Picture
Different diverse populations will perceive communication differently from various sources and it depends a lot on the type of delivery used.  Reception of communication can also be tricky if delivery is improperly used.  "Effective communication is generally defined as the method that clearly accurately conveys the intended message (Mayhew 1).

Reasons Students Do Not Get Involved In College

Reasons Students Do Not Get Involved In College
by Sydoney A.A. Banks

Picture
I read the article "College is More Than Going to Class...Get Involved!  So What's In It For You?" from UNM.  There are several ways to get involved with your college.  You can stop by the Student Activities Center or the Student Life Center, attend an event that is being held at your college, volunteer or apply for a Student Government position, or apply for a job on your college campus, and if there are Residence Halls on campus they have great activities and opportunities, there are great sports and trips when you participate in Intramurals, Leadership and Diversity classes and trips, and Fitness Classes of all types, Athletic Events and outings, there is even music with band and choir, and acting in plays, creating movies in cinema classes, and several diverse student orgaizations, such as African American Students, American Indian Students, Hispanic or Latin American Students, LGTBQ Students, Recoving Students, Returning Students, Veteran Students, Women Students, International Students and more.  There is a group for everyone if you are interested enough to take the time to look at what your school offers you.  You should look to see what your school can do to help you to help yourself.  You can even benefit from scholarships from some of these choices when you give your time and help others or your community.  "There is no better way to get involved" and to "have fun and add your special and unique personality to your campus culture" (1).  "You can also benefit yourself with available tutors, academic counselors, financial consultants, professional counselors and much more" (1).
Picture
You can discover and practice your passions, find others that have similar likes and interests and then you have someone to share them with.  If you like you can even start your own club if it does not already exist.  Once you start opening doors the opportunities only continue to grow.  This also helps you to build your resume as you learn important skills and contribute to your community by developing leadership skills, practicing communication skills, learning time management, gaining budget experience, supervising other students, mentoring other students and it is great place to learn, to try and test what you have learned and to make mistakes as you learn without it causing you a lot of harm or damage to your education or your resume.  You can discover and practice your passions, find others that have similar likes and interests and then you have someone to share them with.  If you like you can even start your own club if it does not already exist.  Once you start opening doors the opportunities only continue to grow.  This also helps you to build your resume as you learn important skills and contribute to your community by developing leadership skills, practicing communication skills, learning time management, gaining budget experience, supervising other students, mentoring other students and it is great place to learn, to try and test what you have learned and to make mistakes as you learn without it causing you a lot

"Research suggests students who are involved in student organizations and campus activities have a better G.P.A., graduate sooner and have a better college experience.  Enough said! (1).  Have fun and explore all the different activities and programs offered on your campus, it is easy to get involved and have a lasting impact on your campus as you attempt to have the traditional college experience.  I am and I am loving it as I grow and become my best me for my future and to fulfill my passion and my dreams!

Personal Freedoms Hate Speech with Brother Dean by Sydoney A.A. Banks

Picture
I attended a “Healing Racism Presentation” the other night at PVCC.  I learned that hate speech is allowed under free speech, as per our first amendment right; as long as it is not directed at an individual and meant to harm them.
How far can or should hate speech go?

There is a man, Brother Dean Saxton, and he goes around the state to different college and high school campuses preaching his form of Christianity.  While he is doing this he shouts out horrible statements aimed at the students.  He tells them they are going to hell – for being gay, or Muslim, or for masturbating or wearing yoga pants, or for being a feminist, sluts deserve to be raped, you name it and he
had probably said it to someone at some time.
Picture
He also wears offensive T-shirts with inappropriate signage or statements similar to the previously mentioned remarks.  He goes to the places on campus where people have the right to speak and share their free speech amendment with others, and this does include hate speech.  If the place has any public funding or support from the public, then the public has the right to be there.  He is a member of the public and no matter how disgusting and vile he is he can speak and he also videos while he verbally accosts students. He has had some run-ins with students being violent with and to him.  He was hit once in the head with a baseball bat by a young 19 year-old-female and he was injured and bloody and she was charged with felony assault.
Picture
He kicked one young female in the chest when she approached him on campus at U of A and left his boot print on her chest and he was charged with a misdemeanor and was not able to return to campus at U of A for a year or he would then get arrested. So even though hate speech is the worst speech allowed, one is entitled to speak it as long as it (the words) do not harm anyone directly – it is okay.  You do not have to listen to it.

Personal Freedoms Hate Speech vs Free Speech

Personal Freedoms Hate Speech vs Free Speech
By Sydoney A.A. Banks

Picture
The freedom of speech is an American’s First Amendment Right and is considered one of the most important rights over all of the rights that are granted to us as United States citizens.  The right to say anything we want to about anything we feel important enough to express ourselves about – our freedom of speech.  As U.S. citizens, we do not want to have the United States government suppress our right to speak on any topic at any time to anyone who is listening to us.  If the government was able to start suppressing our right to free speech by limiting any topic of speech then how would we know that they might not then decide to limit another topic and then another.  We want to be careful so that we do not give up control of what we can say and where we can say it because we do not want our rights to erode and disappear.  So then, what about hate speech?
Picture
Hate speech is covered under the First Amendment as long as it is not directed at an individual and that it is not intended to harm an individual.  According to Students in Action, “In this country, there is no right to speakfighting words—those words without social value, directed to a specific individual, that would provoke a reasonable member of the group about whom the words are spoken.  However, under the First Amendment, individuals do have a right to speech that the listener disagrees with and to speech that is offensive and hateful.” (1)  We might find it easier to defend words that we agree with but much harder to defend words we do not like or agree with.  We should defend all speech even when we find the message unfriendly and distasteful to keep
all free speech free for all – hateful or not.

leadership communication by Sydoney A.A. Banks
Effective Communication Tips to Assist and Improve Your Great Leadership Skills

Picture
Leaders are often the center of their organization and are always being watched for their best and their worst behaviors.  “Words and actions can become habits and habits contribute to defining our character.  Leadership is a privilege that must be earned every day” (Gleeson 1).  “Effective communication is also about emotional intelligence, knowing your audience and active listening” (Gleeson 1).  Effective communication is an essential component of professional success whether it is at the interpersonal, inter-group, intra-group, organizational, external level (Myatt 2).  Leaders are models of how they should behave and others do watch and follow how they see leaders acting and communicating (Anthony 1).  Great communicators possess a heightened sense of situational and contextual awareness; they are great listeners and astute in their observations; they are skilled at reading a person/group by sensing the moods, dynamics, attitudes, values, and concerns of those being communicated with; they possess the uncanny ability to adapt their messaging to said environment without missing a beat;
and the message is 100% about meeting the needs and the expectations
of those you’re communicating with (Myatt 2).
Picture
Following are several great communication tips to help you become a much better communicator and an effect leader. Be honest.  People will invest time and take risks in ways they never would if they sense their leader is worthy, reputable, and has integrity.  To create trust – earn it – with the right acting, thinking, and decision making.  People will forgive many things where trust exists, but will rarely forgive anything where trust is absent (Myatt 2). Be present.  Stay actively present in the moment and be engaged with your audience no matter how trivial you think the conversation may be; that way
they know you care about them (Gleeson 1).  Get personal.  Have organizational conversations – think dialog not monologue and the more personal and engaging the more effective it will be (Myatt 2).   “There is great truth in the following axiom: ‘people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care’” (Myatt 2).  Develop meaningful relationships to know what others think and want before it becomes too late to learn what you could have done to make things
better in the first place (Myatt 2). Ask the right questions.

Picture
To build and have a great team, one of the greatest privileges a strong leader will attain, can be accomplished by asking the right questions to promote productive and intelligent communication among one another.  Have people on your team to success that are much smarter and more talented than yourself in many various areas, so that everyone involved on the team can act on their own areas of strength for the greater good of the entire team.  Get specific.  Time is precious; so you have to quickly and accurately make the main point clearly, concisely, and simply to be understood fully and to hit the high points/important details so that the main objective is heard and absorbed by all – and expect the same from others.  Make your words count (Myatt 3). Interact with a servant’s heart.  Transfer ideas, align expectations, inspire actions, and spread your vision and passion; focus on contributing more than receiving – what does the other party want, need, and desire – then you learn more and gain more and can then contribute more to attaining both your goal and theirs (Myatt 3).Have an open mind.  Seek out others who hold dissenting opinions and opposing positions with the goal not of convincing them to change their minds, but with the goal of understanding what’s on their mind and be genuinely curious and interested (Myatt 3).  Have an open dialog with those who confront you, challenge you, stretch you, and develop you; remember their opinion is not important, but the willingness to discuss issues with you with you having an open mind and the ability to learn is what is the most important for improvement (Myatt 3).
Picture
Speak less and listen more.  Learn to actively listen to those speaking.  Wise people listen more and speak less – the less we talk, the more we will learn from those around us (Gleeson 2).  The greatest form of discourse takes place within a conversation, know when to talk, when to converse, and when to listen so you will be able to learn the most (Myatt 3).  “Active listening involves concentrating only on the speaker and ignoring outside interruptions, including the listener’s own wandering thoughts or possible responses.  Active listeners also refrain from interrupting, give the speaker time to finish, show they are listening by doing things like nodding or smiling and reflect or paraphrase back to verify their understanding” (Anthony 1). Work on emotional intelligence.  “Emotional intelligence is not a softer-side leadership quality, it’s imperative.  Being self-aware, disciplined, empathetic, and remaining calm under pressure are all aspects of emotional intelligence that can improve leadership ability” (Gleeson 3).  Therefore, these are learned capabilities that have
to be worked on and developed over time (Gleeson 3).
Replace ego with empathy.  Be straightforward, sincere, and truthful when
communicating and use empathy and caring as you display a level of authenticity and transparency to articulate the main point of your presentation.  This will help you turn anger into respect and doubt into trust with others when you avoid using your
ego to get your message across (Myatt 3).
Stay calm and be positive.  Smile and carry yourself with confidence – calm is contagious – body language, tone, and delivery are very important.  Effective communication is only about 7% of the words you say, so remember to be calm and positive (Gleeson 3).
Picture
Actions and nonverbal cues include facial expressions, use of hand motions, body posture, and eye movements so strive to always match these cues to your words and then the words are more believable and trustworthy (Anthony 1).
Read between the lines.  Great leaders have the uncanny ability to understand what is not said, witnessed, or heard and they know there is much to gain from the minds of others; so watch and listen and speak less and your awareness level will rise (Myatt 3).
When speaking, know what you are talking about.  Develop a technical command over your subject matter – add value to a situation or topic and be credible – it matters very much what you say and how you say it (Myatt 4). Speak to groups as individuals.  Good communicators/leaders can tailor
a message from one to ten to a hundred to thousands of listeners and have
their audience members feel that they are the individual the speaker is directly
talking to.  Knowing how to work a room or an auditorium and being able to establish credibility, trust, and rapport are keys to successful interactions (Myatt 4).  Adapt your
style to your audience – identify your audience and their characteristics and interests, adjust your communication style based on what the audience needs and what will encourage them to react to meet the goals of the communication (Anthony 1).
Be prepared to change if the message is needed.  Know how to prepare and
develop a contingency plan and your objective must be in alignment with those
you are communicating with and remember to use “great questions, humor, stories, analogies, relevant data, and where needed, bold statements to help connect and
engender the confidence and trust that it takes for people to engage” (Myatt 4).  Always have a plan A, but if it for any reason should fail remember to have a plan B or maybe
even a plan C, sometimes things do go awry so be prepared to succeed.

Picture
Prepare the way.  Spend time to prepare the way for others to receive a productive conversation.  Let them know where you are coming from so they will know where you
are going to – communicate your objective to others.  The message is received
when the way is made clear for listeners to hear and understand the full message
given using knowledge, logic, reason, empathy, etc., and it won’t fall on deaf ears
and have to be reinforced or clarified later (Myatt 4).
“Effective communication skills do not come naturally for most people” and many “need to practice repeatedly in order to improve their skills” and one may “consider classes or training that will help them communicate effectively” (Anthony 2).

The Importance of Campus Involvement for Students
by Sydoney A.A. Banks

Picture
I began my college experience in the fall semester of 2016 and I attended College Rush week looking for clubs to join that might fit my interests and my schedule.  I was interested in some and I tried to get more information on them and I learned that some conflicted with my schedule, some no longer existed on campus, and others I just was not interested in.  I really wanted to be involved and I knew that involvement is important for myself, as well as, for the others I would be involved with and for.  I always try to find areas that I am passioned with to share my talents and skills and to benefit others while doing the things I love.  I learned about Emerging Leaders from an instructor who had a visiting instructor come and make a presentation to her math class.  At first, I thought no I don't need that, but then I really enjoyed the information he presented to the class and his life story that he shared with us.  I felt the connection and I wanted to learn more and to grow as a student and as a responsible person.  So I took the Emerging Leaders courses and I have even taken other related courses that have helped me and various fellow students to become aware and involved with campus activities.  We have all grown as students and as adults.  We also share what we have learned with other students and with our communities in several ways.  We have learned that we should share our learning and pass it on to enhance our beloved communities to make everywhere we have been a better place than it was when we first arrived there.  So I attempt to do this and pass it on and I believe that we can all attempt the same and accomplish improving
life for one another every day, we only have to try.
Picture
I found information in this article printed in the Puma Press in December of 2006 by David Mayer, Staff Writer, called Campus involvement the cure for 'class-to-car syndrome' in the Community section of the paper.  The article states, "Heather Kruse, the Director of Student Life and Leadership at PVCC, specializes in helping students gain the confidence and abilities to play a more active role in the school.  “Some students suffer from what we (faculty in the Student Life Center) call the class-to-car syndrome,” says Kruse.  This means that many students today only go from their classes to their cars and back home.  Kruse says that one of the reasons for this “syndrome” is that some students feel that joining a club, activity or sports team will consume too much time and they will not be able to get involved as much as the group wants.  This is untrue, according to Kruse.  In fact, most clubs only meet a few times a month.  If students can only attend a few of the meetings due to their schedules, their involvement still makes a difference.  Kruse says that by getting involved, “you can build important skills for leadership and have a lot of fun.”  Kruse also says that by actively participating, students can “build a support network on campus and build relationships, gain friendships and learn valuable goals.”  Clubs and activities can also help students gain information about scholarship opportunities.  Kruse said that when applying for a job later on in life, employers look at what makes each person different from everyone else.  Being involved with school activities can improve a job seeker’s chances for success and can make a lasting impact with the interviewer."

UZA and UZA Synyster Syn Founder Sydoney Banks is taking ART 142 - Intro to Digital Photography with Instructor Alvin Jerry Sieve for the summer 2017 at PVCC.  The world of education is absolutely amazing.  Knowledge after you have learned it, is one thing that cannot be take away from you.  I am very thankful to finally have the opportunity to learn about the art of photography and all the equipment used to make interesting photographs and to have stunning, cooperative models as well.  Learning about photography is so cool and I have an amazing instructor.  I am learning and growing so much in these quickly passing summer months.  One of the best parts of this class is learning how the camera actually works, from the inside out.  Another important part of this class, is the photo shoot opportunities and the connections that you can make with others by having the photo shoots.  I have a blast on the photo shoots and I try to come up with creative and entertaining ideas, so that everyone involved will enjoy the experience.  My models are such terrific and special people and I love them so very much for wanting to take part in these activities.  I am so blessed to get to work with them and to get to know them individually as well as to have a lot of fun while learning.  I appreciate them so much for showing up on time and taking time from their busy schedules to help me with the photo shoots required by the class.  I am truly grateful for my models and their support of me as well as my fellow photographers and their friendship.

Thank you for your contribution to the PVCC

Picture
UZA Zombies go to Mad Monster Arizona 2017.
UZA had a blast and an amazing time.
Mad Monster had UZA Zombies walking around.
We are so blessed to have had this opportunity.
UZA are big fans and supporters of Mad Monster.
Mad Monster is an amazing event and they really do care about the people.

Mad Monster has a loving and welcoming family vibe.
They go out of their way to put on such a great show.
Compared to many big expensive Cons, Mad Monster delivers fun for all.

Be careful when going to any Events and Cons, learn about the event
and what you can get for your money and time.  Learn how they treat patrons, vendors, volunteers, etc., to see if you want to support them and their causes with your money.
Not all Cons are alike, so learn more so you know how your money is being used by Cons. Mad Monster is in it for the experience, fun, and fans.
Mad Monster is very good to the volunteers and staff; they treat you like family.
They really care about everything and everyone.
You can feel the love at Mad Monster.
This is one of the best Events in Arizona and UZA loves Mad Monster.
UZA had a blast walking around and meeting with all the people there.
We loved taking photos and giving high fives to those attending.

We even made new friends!

About  LeaderShape®
LeaderShape® is a community of individuals working to create a world that does not exist right now except in moments.

The world we want to experience is where everyone leads with integrity and embraces living in possibility. Where anything is possible. Where everyone sees their own gifts and finds ways to use them for the greater good. We want to see our best selves.

A few men in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity started LeaderShape® in the early 1980’s. Through many conversations in the basement of their headquarters, a vision was created to develop a week long immersion experience to help the men of that fraternity become better leaders. In the process of doing so, they realized that leadership is not just for Greek men, but also for everyone. With the development of the LeaderShape® Institute™ in 1986 and subsequent invitations to non-Greek participants, the decision was made to start a unique not-for-profit called LeaderShape® so that the program would not be seen as only for Greek students. They succeeded.

Ever since that period of time, LeaderShape® has grown through the recommendations of those that have participated in our programs. They shared their experience and invited others to participate as well.

We are “about” bringing our vision to reality. We invite you to join us.

Thank you all!

Sydoney was one of the few selected by the PVCC Student Life Center to have the opportunity to attend LeaderShape for spring 2017.  When Syd found out she was selected, she could not believe it.  To apply for LeaderShape you have to fill out paperwork and complete an interview with the selecting committee.  Syd was very nervous and anxious while waiting even though she did her best and she finally was selected and very grateful.  Retreat Week:  Sunday, May 21st - Friday, May 26th, 2017.  The retreat will take place at CGCC and ASU Polytechnic.  She wants to thank Mike Ho for selecting her and allowing her this unique and extra special opportunity to attend LeaderShape as a student representative for PVCC.

Mike, you are truly amazing and so supportive of me and I am very blessed and sincerely thankful to have you and everyone at PVCC Student Life involved with me and my student life while I attend PVCC.  I owe a lot to you, Mike Ho!  Thank you so very much!  Thank you also, Rowdy Duncan, for all your love and support!

Thank You Mike Ho!

We are Groot Skits

Syd said this was such an amazing experience and she got very close to many others while they too were attending LeaderShape.  Syd learned a lot while at LeaderShape, but Syd found the relationships and bonds of fellowship and love to be the most rewarding.  Syd had a very rough day why she was away at LeaderShape, when she learned of an amazing woman’s passing away, who happened to be a very special friend of Syd’s family.  The loss was extra hard because she was away from home, but with the love and support of the group Syd made it through the loss.  I was very upset to have lost such an extraordinary human from the world, Ms. Windy West.  I had just seen her the weekend before LeaderShape and she appeared to be her fantastic self.  She was so awesomely amazing and a great leader herself; she was a kind, beautiful, inspiring human being.  She will be missed and will always remain close to my heart as well as and in the heart of UZA.  Our prayers and hearts go out to her family and the multitude of friends she had in the entertainment world.  You will always be carried with us, Windy.  It was such a fine privilege and honor to have the opportunity to meet you as well as to work with you and to be able to call you a friend.

Hold on to this experience

Picture
Syd learned at LeaderShape how to be a successful leader and to use it for good and to make a real difference with positive social change.  Syd also learned life can be short and is very precious.  Relationships are so very special and you should make the best of those relationships while you have them, before they may be gone.  You really never know when you might lose them.  True friendship is difficult to find, but not impossible to have and you need to nourish it to keep it alive and healthy.  Humans are social beings and we need each other for healthy existences.  Dearly hold on to your friendships and never let go.  MAKE TIME FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVE ONES, FOR NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT!  To show up and share time is very important and means so much for everyone involved.  Make time to be involved in the lives of those you really care about.  Friendships are not just one-sided and only about you; they are about both you and your friend and that means giving of yourself as well as receiving of your friends.  Please enjoy life and be there for others, especially your loved ones and your friends.  Make new friends for they can last forever!

Getting Down at LeaderShape with Mo!
Mo had some pretty good dance moves.

Picture

LeaderShape know how to party!
So much fun, and helps keep the energy up!

Picture
Syd also learned to be a great leader is to be selfless, it is not about you, and it is about your team.  The leader is successful when their team is successful.  The worst type of leader is the one that is selfish and usually they care more about themselves then they care about their team.  These leaders use their power for selfishness or even for evil and often abuse their powers to get personal gain.  I have seen this type of leadership a lot and it has even happened to me in my life more times than I would like to recall.  Greed, pride, and power take over and the leader miss uses their leadership and the sad thing is that unaware followers will blindly follow the leader and never even know what is really going on.  I want to lead with integrity and be the best leader that I can and lead with my heart and my values for the benefit of my entire group’s success.  I want to build a beloved community and use positive social change for the betterment of my community as well as for the whole world around me.  I want to use my leadership for good and for positivity to assist others; to build them up so that we can all help ourselves as we also help enrich those around us that we come into contact with to build a beautiful, caring, resourceful, beloved community.

Sydoney performed several different activities that bonded her with all kinds of different people from many different schools, backgrounds, countries, and beliefs.  Syd had a blast and learned so much from everyone and everything they all did.  Syd also worked on her dream while there at LeaderShape; she wants to own her own haunted house, similar to the one that was in Utah, the legendary Rocky Point Haunted House.  She wants a haunted house that will help people and that will provide positive social changes and will teach youth and adults several various skills.  She wants a haunted house that is more than just a haunted house; one that will truly be a family for those that work in it, work for it, and for those that will attend it as well.  She wants to help others and to make a real positive difference in the haunted attraction industry for employees, actors, and even for patrons of the haunt.  Haunted attraction actors love what they do so much that they will put up with a lot, even when it is unfair and even wrong, and there is room for a lot of improvement for everyone.

Some of LeaderShape Activities

Syd learned so much and when it was time to go home it was hard to say goodbye and leave all those she had formed friendships with.  She hopes to stay in touch with her new LeaderShape family and some of them might even come to visit at some of UZA’s events and maybe even join her on this evolving mission to change the world for greatness and success.

We did it guys we graduated LeaderShape 2017!

Thank you all so much for your hard work, Late nights, and lack of sleep, putting up with us, love, support, humor, personality, leadership, jokes, stories, strengths,
time, energy, paperwork and everything else you did.
We could not have asked for a better team. You did an amazing job.
I hope we all learned something. I hope we all go go out into the world, and use what we have learned, and make a difference.
I hope we make you all proud.

UZA aka United Zombies of America is in need of some help with makeup supplies.Your help will benefit the Arizona Community and its youth.  UZA has been doing FREE Makeup for 5 years now.  We have done makeup classes, workshops, panels, and education for youth and all other age groups.  We love educating everyone on makeup and all the amazing things it can be done for and to enhance.  We do not charge to do makeup education so that those who cannot afford it can still have the opportunity to learn.  We also come to community events dressed up usually as zombies, but also as many other characters as well.  We are running low on some of the makeup we use most often and would like to purchase more to have enough to use as needed for our upcoming events and activities.  The funds we raise will go to makeup.  We love what we do and want to continue to make a difference for others and to touch the lives of many.  Please Help us out, so we can keep moving forward and bring joy and fun to our beloved community.  We are looking at buying the makeup as soon as we can.  This help would mean the world to us and will also let us know that we are loved and supported by our local community.  We love helping and giving and we could use the help so that we can give it all back to what we love doing for others and that is all of you.  God bless you and we are so grateful for any amount or support.  Nothing is too small because a lot of small amounts adds up and it all counts!  THANK YOU!!  If you don't know whatUnited Zombies of America aka UZA is you can find out more about us at http://www.united-zombies-of-america.com/

Microsoft Learning Tools: Education and TechnologyOne in five students struggle with dyslexia, which can affect their ability to read, write and participate in class. Microsoft Learning Tools is software that helps improve reading skills by reducing visual crowding, highlighting words, and reading text aloud, so students can engage with words in a whole new way.

See how technology and education come together to empower young minds to do more.
