UZA at Mad Monster 2017!

Picture
UZA Zombies go to Mad Monster Arizona 2017.
UZA had a blast and an amazing time.
Mad Monster had UZA Zombies walking around.
We are so blessed to have had this opportunity.
UZA are big fans and supporters of Mad Monster.
Mad Monster is an amazing event and they really do care about the people.

Mad Monster has a loving and welcoming family vibe.
They go out of their way to put on such a great show.
Compared to many big expensive Cons, Mad Monster delivers fun for all.

Be careful when going to any Events and Cons, learn about the event
and what you can get for your money and time.  Learn how they treat patrons, vendors, volunteers, etc., to see if you want to support them and their causes with your money.
Not all Cons are alike, so learn more so you know how your money is being used by Cons. Mad Monster is in it for the experience, fun, and fans.
Mad Monster is very good to the volunteers and staff; they treat you like family.
They really care about everything and everyone.
You can feel the love at Mad Monster.
This is one of the best Events in Arizona and UZA loves Mad Monster.
UZA had a blast walking around and meeting with all the people there.
We loved taking photos and giving high fives to those attending.

We even made new friends!

Thank you:  Mad Monster, Joe Moe, Cathie Neales-Mansfield, Seth Summers,
the cast of "Night of The Living Dead", the Mad Monster Photographer and staff, and the

About  LeaderShape®
LeaderShape® is a community of individuals working to create a world that does not exist right now except in moments.

The world we want to experience is where everyone leads with integrity and embraces living in possibility. Where anything is possible. Where everyone sees their own gifts and finds ways to use them for the greater good. We want to see our best selves.

A few men in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity started LeaderShape® in the early 1980’s. Through many conversations in the basement of their headquarters, a vision was created to develop a week long immersion experience to help the men of that fraternity become better leaders. In the process of doing so, they realized that leadership is not just for Greek men, but also for everyone. With the development of the LeaderShape® Institute™ in 1986 and subsequent invitations to non-Greek participants, the decision was made to start a unique not-for-profit called LeaderShape® so that the program would not be seen as only for Greek students. They succeeded.

Ever since that period of time, LeaderShape® has grown through the recommendations of those that have participated in our programs. They shared their experience and invited others to participate as well.

We are “about” bringing our vision to reality. We invite you to join us.

LeaderShape 2017
Thank you all!

Sydoney was one of the few selected by the PVCC Student Life Center to have the opportunity to attend LeaderShape for spring 2017.  When Syd found out she was selected, she could not believe it.  To apply for LeaderShape you have to fill out paperwork and complete an interview with the selecting committee.  Syd was very nervous and anxious while waiting even though she did her best and she finally was selected and very grateful.  Retreat Week:  Sunday, May 21st - Friday, May 26th, 2017.  The retreat will take place at CGCC and ASU Polytechnic.  She wants to thank Mike Ho for selecting her and allowing her this unique and extra special opportunity to attend LeaderShape as a student representative for PVCC.

Mike, you are truly amazing and so supportive of me and I am very blessed and sincerely thankful to have you and everyone at PVCC Student Life involved with me and my student life while I attend PVCC.  I owe a lot to you, Mike Ho!  Thank you so very much!  Thank you also, Rowdy Duncan, for all your love and support!

Thank You Mike Ho!

We are Groot Skits

Syd said this was such an amazing experience and she got very close to many others while they too were attending LeaderShape.  Syd learned a lot while at LeaderShape, but Syd found the relationships and bonds of fellowship and love to be the most rewarding.  Syd had a very rough day why she was away at LeaderShape, when she learned of an amazing woman’s passing away, who happened to be a very special friend of Syd’s family.  The loss was extra hard because she was away from home, but with the love and support of the group Syd made it through the loss.  I was very upset to have lost such an extraordinary human from the world, Ms. Windy West.  I had just seen her the weekend before LeaderShape and she appeared to be her fantastic self.  She was so awesomely amazing and a great leader herself; she was a kind, beautiful, inspiring human being.  She will be missed and will always remain close to my heart as well as and in the heart of UZA.  Our prayers and hearts go out to her family and the multitude of friends she had in the entertainment world.  You will always be carried with us, Windy.  It was such a fine privilege and honor to have the opportunity to meet you as well as to work with you and to be able to call you a friend.

Hold on to this experience

Picture
Syd learned at LeaderShape how to be a successful leader and to use it for good and to make a real difference with positive social change.  Syd also learned life can be short and is very precious.  Relationships are so very special and you should make the best of those relationships while you have them, before they may be gone.  You really never know when you might lose them.  True friendship is difficult to find, but not impossible to have and you need to nourish it to keep it alive and healthy.  Humans are social beings and we need each other for healthy existences.  Dearly hold on to your friendships and never let go.  MAKE TIME FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVE ONES, FOR NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT!  To show up and share time is very important and means so much for everyone involved.  Make time to be involved in the lives of those you really care about.  Friendships are not just one-sided and only about you; they are about both you and your friend and that means giving of yourself as well as receiving of your friends.  Please enjoy life and be there for others, especially your loved ones and your friends.  Make new friends for they can last forever!

Getting Down at LeaderShape with Mo!
Mo had some pretty good dance moves.

Picture

LeaderShape know how to party!
So much fun, and helps keep the energy up!

Picture
Syd also learned to be a great leader is to be selfless, it is not about you, and it is about your team.  The leader is successful when their team is successful.  The worst type of leader is the one that is selfish and usually they care more about themselves then they care about their team.  These leaders use their power for selfishness or even for evil and often abuse their powers to get personal gain.  I have seen this type of leadership a lot and it has even happened to me in my life more times than I would like to recall.  Greed, pride, and power take over and the leader miss uses their leadership and the sad thing is that unaware followers will blindly follow the leader and never even know what is really going on.  I want to lead with integrity and be the best leader that I can and lead with my heart and my values for the benefit of my entire group’s success.  I want to build a beloved community and use positive social change for the betterment of my community as well as for the whole world around me.  I want to use my leadership for good and for positivity to assist others; to build them up so that we can all help ourselves as we also help enrich those around us that we come into contact with to build a beautiful, caring, resourceful, beloved community.

LeaderShape Fun

Eating Time

Picture
Sydoney performed several different activities that bonded her with all kinds of different people from many different schools, backgrounds, countries, and beliefs.  Syd had a blast and learned so much from everyone and everything they all did.  Syd also worked on her dream while there at LeaderShape; she wants to own her own haunted house, similar to the one that was in Utah, the legendary Rocky Point Haunted House.  She wants a haunted house that will help people and that will provide positive social changes and will teach youth and adults several various skills.  She wants a haunted house that is more than just a haunted house; one that will truly be a family for those that work in it, work for it, and for those that will attend it as well.  She wants to help others and to make a real positive difference in the haunted attraction industry for employees, actors, and even for patrons of the haunt.  Haunted attraction actors love what they do so much that they will put up with a lot, even when it is unfair and even wrong, and there is room for a lot of improvement for everyone.

Some of LeaderShape Activities

Syd learned so much and when it was time to go home it was hard to say goodbye and leave all those she had formed friendships with.  She hopes to stay in touch with her new LeaderShape family and some of them might even come to visit at some of UZA’s events and maybe even join her on this evolving mission to change the world for greatness and success.

We did it guys we graduated LeaderShape 2017!

time, energy, paperwork and everything else you did.
We could not have asked for a better team. You did an amazing job.
I hope we all learned something. I hope we all go go out into the world, and use what we have learned, and make a difference.
I hope we make you all proud.

So cool to have UZA represented in Apache Junction! We love AJ!

Have an idea for library programming like Library-Con?Apr 6th, 2017 · by R. Nicholas Evans, special to the Independent

Apache Junction Public Library held its annual Library-Con March 18 for comic book and super-hero fans and collectors gathering for cosplay. Arizona Ghostbusters, United Zombies of America and other booths, such as for Star Wars and Star Trek, were set-up for the enjoyment of kids and adults alike at the library, 1177 N. Idaho Road.

Anyone interested in planning and programming an event similar to Library-Con needs to contact Library Manager Tracie Curtis.
“E-mail me at [email protected] with an outline of the program, what you would like to do, what you would like to offer, including the time frame and the date. Also, the funding you have in mind. Then, we would start fleshing out the whole program by getting the rest of the staff involved,” she said.

Three patrons interviewed at the library already have ideas for a future event.

“I believe having an event to help support the homeless. The library could do a charity walk or run or some type of marathon to raise money for the homeless,” Lisa Zapta said.

“I would like to see local cooks from Apache Junction come out, where I could learn and try new recipes,” Susan Kampmueller said.

Stewart Penje said parents should be encouraged to bring their children and take advantage of all the educational amenities the Apache Junction Public Library has to offer.

“I am a great fan of the library. Instead of attracting children, I believe the library should have an event to attract parents to bring the children,” he said.

The Apache Junction Library-Con provided free activities to the community, such as face-painting and prizes for best costume for the categories of kids, teens and adults.

“Apache Junction Library-Con is a lot of fun and it’s open to all types of different ages. I’m here today with my zombies from United Zombies of America and we just love coming to this stuff because it makes a big difference, I believe, to the community. And it gives something for kids to do that’s free. So, it’s nice to do something like this,” Sydoney Banks of United Zombies of America said at the event.

“We are just happy to be out here supporting the Apache Junction Library-Con. This is, I believe, the third one, and it has grown tremendously. So I can’t wait to see how much bigger it gets each year,” Jeff Lewis of Arizona Ghostbusters said at the event.
“We’ve done multiple events through the library and we keep coming back because we love the atmosphere,” Skylar LeMans said.

Editor’s note: R. Nicholas Evans is a freelancer writer for the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Independent newspaper.

I Found My Life’s Passion At Halloween Express

I Found My Life’s Passion At Halloween Express

During the fall of 2009, I made a decision to go to the Halloween Express store to look at their Halloween decorations, and it led me to discover my life’s passion and purpose.  As I entered the store, I noticed a sign that stated they were going to have a haunted house for Halloween and it was coming soon.  While I looked around the store, I saw a sandwich board, and it stated that they had held auditions a few days earlier and were still looking for cast members to perform in the haunted house.  I decided to give it an honest try, even though I was terrified of haunted houses, and to do my best to earn a part in the haunted house.  It was fun and informative, and I got a part and then showed up for rehearsals to learn how to act and scare people as a character in a haunted house and everything else we had to learn to do the job properly.  I worked hard every night we were open and I was the lead actor and head zombie in the graveyard and helped to teach others to act and scare and kept things safe for my actors and the customers that came through.  From this experience, I found my passion for acting in haunted houses, and I learned to network with others, I learned to do makeup for haunts, I learned to teach others how to work in a haunt, I worked with the children that were there, I learned so very much and how much I loved doing anything I could with the haunted house.  I even did television and press releases for the haunted house with the news and local channels in Phoenix.  It was amazing and fun.  It helped me through a very difficult time in my life and it gave me direction and purpose, and I still follow what I learned then today.  I gained many new friends and some of them are like family to me even to this day.  Finally, at the Cast Party, I received the Actress of the Season Award for all my hard work and my dedication to the haunted house and those that worked there and even for those that went through it and enjoyed it.  I never thought that I would find something so valuable and dear to my life and one that would help me through the toughest period in my life.  This wonderful haunted house did show me my life’s passion

and future dreams that I happened upon by chance one
day while going to the Halloween Express store.

We Can’t Live Without Technology

We Can’t Live Without Technology

Most Americans today, in the 21st century, cannot live without technology.  It is hard not to use technology.  Technology is used every day.  You may not even be aware of it.  We use it when we are on google docs, the internet, cell phones, and computers at school or work.  Technology is also found in our cars.  If you have a CD player or radio, a GPS, or even a DVD player and screen, then you have technology, as well as the car locks and other mechanical functions.
You use technology when you go shopping too.  When you enter a store, the doors may open and close by themselves and that is technology.  When you check out at the store the items you are purchasing, the scanner, and how you pay for your purchase uses technology.  Now in most businesses, we now use chip card readers when we check out.  In conclusion, we use technology all the time, and you may not even be aware of it.  Americans cannot live without technology.  It is a necessity of everyday life.  Next time you go out count up all the times you use technology.  I bet you will find it to be a lot.

New Mexico Ghost Town and more.

Picture
Organ, N.M.

This is one of the coolest and creepiest places I have ever been to, Organ, New Mexico, east of Las Cruces, New Mexico.  There is a small town on Highway 70 with some abandoned and weathered old buildings, that seem to be out in the middle of no where.

Organ once was a happening place back in the old west,
when there was mining in the Organ Mountains.
This creepy, little, leftover town is located between Las Cruces, New Mexico, on the west and Alamogordo, New Mexico on the distant east way past the Organ Mountains.
I went inside, alone, to see what was there and to take photographs and video of the old, worn, empty buildings.

The entire time I was there, I heard noises, some were birds and cars driving by, but I also heard other noises and I even felt a presence there.  I happened to come across some graffiti that was also pretty scary and it added to the whole odd and eerie feeling of the place.  The ground at some points, did not feel stable, so I walked carefully and slowly.  The buildings were in ruins and there was trash thrown about, as if people were spending the night there for shelter or maybe they would go there to hang out.  One of the rooms I came across had a sleeping bag, a backpack and some food in it and I knew that meant someone was living in there.  During this point of my adventure, feeling kind of scared and really creeped out, I wondered where the person was that owned that stuff.  So I continued on looking and taking some more photos, and when I was done, I got the heck out of there.  The feelings I had and the fear I felt were unreal to me.  I am glad I was able to go there and take pictures of the eerie, spooky, creepy, little town of Organ, New Mexico, it is one heck of a ghoulish place I would say.

The mining camp of Organ became a town in February of 1885 although there had been mining activity since the late 1840s. The town's greatest population was around eighteen hundred at the turn of the century. At that time, Organ had seven saloons, a Catholic church, a two-teacher schoolhouse, two smelters, two general stores and a tunnel jail that was originally a powder magazine. New Organ is a modern day community on U.S. 70 with many of its residents presently employed at the White Sands Missile Base. WHY COMICS?

Some of you may be asking yourself, "Why would librarians be encouraging people to read comics? Don't they only like seriousbooks?" The truth is librarians love reading of all kinds!
Comics and graphic novels can encourage literacy and boost reading skills in many ways.

  • Images provide the context necessary to help build vocabulary for ESL & reluctant readers
  • The slow pace of analyzing images and pausing in between panels encourages time to reflect and build reading comprehension
  • Colorful graphics and exciting story lines can captivate attention span & interest
  • Reinforces Common Core standards by reinforcing visual and verbal literacy
  • There are now graphic novels & comics that are creative, enjoyable pieces of literature for all ages

I am Sydoney Aurora Ann Banks.  Sydoney is Sydney with an “o” in the middle.  I was not named after Sedona, Arizona even though they sound similar.  I am named after my deceased brother’s favorite nurse, while he was alive and living in the NICU at The Children’s Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico back in 1989-1990.  The nurse’s name is Sidoni but she went by Sid.  My parents did not know her full name until my brother died.  They were told that Sidoni would be coming in.   When my mom asked them who Sidoni was, they replied “Sid”!  My mom loved the name so she chose it for me because Sid was special and important to my brother and still is to my family today.

My mom wanted to change the spelling because she wanted my name to be special, beautiful, and unique.  Sidonie is from the French and from the Latin.  In French, it is from the City of Sidon.  In Latin, Sidonie refers to the Ancient Phoenician City, now, which is, called the city of Saida in Lebanon.  There are not many Sydoneys around, and maybe far fewer with their names spelled like mine.

My middle name is from a combination of my two grandmother’s names.  I am a namesake for two outstanding and wonderful women.  My middle name is Aurora Ann, because they go well together, and were my grandmothers very beautiful names.  I am the only granddaughter named for either grandmother.  My mom believed it to be an honor to name me after them and carry on their personal legacies.

The meaning for my middle name Aurora – comes from the Latin, and means “Goddess of the Dawn” or in Spanish it refers to “Roman Goddess of the Mornings”.  Ann is from the Hebrew and English languages and means “gracious and merciful”.  I am not named after any Disney Princesses, or any other princesses for that matter.

My surname, or last name, is Banks and unfortunately, it has nothing to do with money or the vaults of the banks that hold the money.  Banks is English and Scottish and it means the edge of the river – a river bank; or one living on the slope of a hillside.  My surname, Banks, is not as exciting and unique as the first three names that my parents gave to me.  My last name is from my dad’s family.

UZA Founders Ray and Sydoney Banks went on an adventure to a galaxy far, far, away.  They went to an event called Sci-Fi Family Day at a galaxy named Mesa, Arizona on a planet called IDEA Museum.  They had a blast at IDEA Museum.  IDEA Museum inspired Ray and Sydoney along with countless others to experience their world differently through art, technology, science, creativity, and imagination.  They made masks, built robots and raced them, took photos with a green screen wall, doodled and made artwork, even had tea with the Mad Hatter, and so much more.  They even met up with some friends of theirs the Arizona Ghostbusters and had a great, fun time with them.  We believe that everyone should come and try out this wonderful planet in the Mesa, Arizona galaxy.  Come and enjoy the day by having your own adventures at planet IDEA Museum like we did.  It really is a blast for the whole family and all ages.  We hope you have your IDEA Museum adventure soon!!

Ray and Sydoney are safely back at home now and they will never forget their exciting encounter that they had on that mysterious “out-of-this-world” day.

*Hint* They might have even brought a little something or someone back with them!

CASA GRANDE

Casa Grande Comic Con runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It’s free and open to all ages.

The event is a chance for children and adults to don a superhero cape and mask and visit the library, said Youth Services Librarian and event organizer David Brown.

It’s expected to attract plenty of Deadpools, Batmans, Harry Potters and other characters.

Last year, more than 400 people attended the event and this year, with expanded offerings, organizers expect a greater turnout.

“This year’s event is going to be bigger and better,” Brown said.

Among the events this year are:

n Drawing demonstrations by comic book artists;

n Makeup tutorials by United Zombies of America;

n Interaction with Tucson’s Copper Queen Roller Derby Team;

n Information and giveaways by Casa Grande Paranormal Investigators;

n Professional cosplay costume workshops hosted by ThermoCosplay;

n Martial arts demonstrations; and

n Costume contests and raffles.

The event aims to celebrate all fictional characters from popular stories, not just comic book or graphic novel heroes.

“Libraries across America are becoming hubs for comic-con type gatherings for people interested in characters from graphic novels, comics, film, television and popular culture,” Brown said.

Some library patrons are fiction fans and travel to San Diego for large comic conventions or to Phoenix or Tucson for mid-sized events, but Brown said many don’t have the means to attend out-of-town gatherings.

“We wanted to provide them with a similar experience,” he said.

Casa Grande Comic Con is the library’s end-of-the-summer finale and signals the conclusion of its summer reading program, in which children earn prizes for reading for a specified amount of time every day.

Costumes are optional.

Vista Grande Library is at 1556 N. Arizola Road.

Zombies on the prowl

CASA GRANDE

Zombies will be on the prowl Saturday in Casa Grande.

Complete with blood and bruises, the living dead will take their place among the superheroes, ghost hunters, roller queens and popular comic book and sci-fi characters roaming about the Vista Grande Library Saturday as the second annual Casa Grande Comic Con gets underway.

United Zombies of America, a Phoenix-based professional entertainment group, plans to offer a “Bruises, Blisters and Gore” workshop during the event, teaching others how, with a bit of makeup, they too can transform into any type of eerie and spine-chilling  — or cute and lovable — character.

For Sydoney Banks, founder of United Zombies of America, being a zombie isn’t all about blood and gore.

“We are not just a monster horror group,” she said. “We do many things and they may often involve monster-type characters and horror. We really do so many things — photography, makeup, videos, classes, panels, workshops, improvisation, security, volunteering, social media, advertising and more.”

The family-friendly group’s motto is “The family that scares together stays together.”

They’ll host a makeup class Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the Vista Grande Library.

“This is a great beginner class for those interested in makeup for any character or event,” Banks said.

United Zombies of America will have a booth at Casa Grande Comic Con offering information about the group. UZA’s Ray Digger “The Grave Digger” will wander throughout the event, offering free photos with participants.

The group, which was founded in 2012, is no stranger to comic conventions. They’ve taken part in the Tempe, Apache Junction and Yuma Library comic con events as well as the Amazing Arizona Con, Mad Monster and various thespian festivals throughout the year.

This year is their first participating in Casa Grande’s Comic Con.

“UZA loves doing various types of cons, especially library cons, because we love giving back to the community,” she said. “We support anti-bullying and paying-it-forward.”

She said people love zombies for many reasons, including the realism and the feeling that “it is more apt to happen futuristically to humans.”

“Of all the monsters there are, zombies might be the most realistic because they tend to occur from diseases, viruses, toxic spills, mutations, science experiments, attempting to reanimate the dead and more,” she said.

With recent books, comics, movies, games, video games, cartoons, toys, clothing and television shows that portray zombies, the monsters are enjoying a surge in popularity.

And while some enjoy being frightened by the characters, others enjoy doing the scaring.

Banks fell in love with zombies after performing at the “Haunting Haunted House” in 2009 and 2010 with her family and friends, Jess Acridge, Casey Corbin, Kristen Cline and others. UZA was started by the group soon after to help Banks explore her dreams, help others with theirs and to provide entertainment and fun, she said.

Many of its members are performers who appreciate the lore, makeup and creepiness of the living dead and some have received theatrical training from various organizations such as Disney, Universal Studios and professional haunted house experiences.

The group performs at events throughout the year.

UZA specializes in makeup and special effects and has its own live interactive game, “Zombie Attack,” which travels throughout the state.

But as a child, Banks was never intrigued by monsters or horror and didn’t tend to watch horror movies.

“I did love Halloween, the costumes and decorations even more than the candy,” she said.

Banks was 15 when she was assigned as the lead zombie in her first haunted house acting roll. In that role, she learned about monsters, horror, haunted houses and other characters.

That year, she won the season’s top actress award for the haunted house and since then has participated in other professional haunted houses each year, including “Rob Zombies Great American Nightmare” in 2014.

Someday, she’d like to open her own haunted attraction that would be open throughout the entire year.

The group is family friendly and has members of all ages. For more information or to join, visit www.united-zombies-of-america.com or visit the booth at Casa Grande Comic Con.

2nd Annual Casa Grande Comic Con 2016

7/8/2016

the Casa Grande Dispatch Newspaper an article about Casa Grande Comic Con.

Melissa St. Aude Staff Writer & Valley Life Editor
Casa Grande Dispatch Newspaper Q & A UZA Founder Sydoney A.A. Banks.

 Q. Tell me a little bit about United Zombies of America - what's it all
about and how did it start?

A.  United Zombies of America (UZA) is a professional entertainment group that officially began in the spring of 2012.  We are actors/performers, artists, educators, jacks of many trades, so to say.  We are NOT just a monster/horror group, but we do many things and they may often involve monster-type characters and/or horror.  We really do so many things: photography, makeup, videos, classes/panels/workshops, improvisation, security, volunteering, social media, advertising and even more.  We support Anti-bulling and Paying It Forward.  We are a family friendly (all ages) group and we believe that “Families that Scare together Stay together!” UZA began because Sydoney Banks, founder of UZA, fell in love with horror and zombies through performing at “The Haunting Haunted House” in 2009/2010 with her family, Jess Acridge, his family, Casey Corbin, Kristen Cline, her family and others.  They all helped her find her passion and her purpose in life.  UZA began so she could explore her dreams and to assist others with theirs and to provide entertainment and fun for all.

 Q. Why are you participating in Casa Grande's Comic Con?

Did you take part last year as well?

Do you do other comic conventions as well?

A. This is our first time to participate in Casa Grande’s Comic Con.  Sydoney found it on Facebook and jumped at the chance to be involved with it.  UZA loves doing various types of cons, especially library comic cons.  UZA loves giving back to the community.  We have done the Tempe, Apache Junction, and Yuma Library Comic Cons as well as Amazing Arizona Con, Mad Monster, YumaCon and more.

 Q. What can people expect when they see your organization at Casa Grande's Comic Con? I understand you'll be doing makeup demonstrations?
Will zombies wander around the event as well?

A. UZA will be doing a makeup and SFX class at 3:15pm called “Bruises, Blisters, and Gore!”  This is a great beginner class for those interested in makeup for any kind of character or event.  We even had someone from a group that does emergency drill events come to get more information on how to do makeup on accident participants.

UZA will have a booth with our information and some other UZA favorites as well.  We will have UZA’s Ray Digger The Grave Digger wandering the comic con for free photos with any interested attendees.  Sydoney will have her cameras ready to take the free photos/videos and she will put them on Facebook after the comic con is over and after she edits them, so this may take her a day or two.  Be sure to get a flyer from Sydoney telling where you can retrieve your photo from and where you can share your own photos with us.

 Q. What is it about zombies that people find so entertaining?
Can you tell me a little bit about why you are interested in zombies?

A. Some of the reasons people may be interested in zombies could be that of all the monsters there are, they might be the most realistic, because they tend to occur from diseases, viruses, toxic spills, mutations, science experiments, attempting to reanimate the dead, and more.  So maybe we feel that it is more apt to happen futuristically to humans.  Haitian voodoo zombies have even been reported and written about.  There are books, comics, movies, games, video games, cartoons, toys, clothing, and television shows that portray zombies for our entertainment.  Some people enjoy being frightened while others enjoy frightening them.  This year on July 4, AMC with Greg Nicotero opened, “The Walking Dead Experience” at Universal Studios in California.  They created it so people could feel what it is like to face zombies at specific places from the show.  Sydoney really wants to go and experience this attraction for herself.
Sydoney never really felt anything for any monsters or horror growing up and she did not know much about any of them either, because she did not grow up watching them.  She did love Halloween, the costumes and decorations, even more than the candy.

During her first haunted house acting role she began learning more about monsters, horror, haunted houses, and cons and she continues to keep learning more about the entire industry to this day.  She was only 15 years old and assigned as the lead zombie, graveyard lead and trainer for the graveyard and all the zombies.  She even won “Actress of the Season” for 2009/2010.  She has done other haunted houses each year since then including, “Rob Zombies Great American Nightmare” in 2014.  She now loves zombies and working in haunted houses.  She hopes to run her own haunted attraction.  She would love for it to be open throughout the entire year.

Horror is great, but UZA is so much more!

Please come by and see us at Casa Grande’s Comic Con
 on Saturday, July 19, 2016.

Thank you for interviewing UZA!  We would love to meet all of you and get a photo with you and Ray Digger at the Comic Con.

UZA Zombies in a Burlesque Show?  18+
Who would have ever thought of zombies being in a burlesque show, huh!  Yes, it is true, we got the privilege of working with one the most professional groups we have ever met, "BurlEscapades".  We did not dance in the act, but we did get to do what zombies do best - DIE!  Even though some of our zombies may have some pretty good dance moves, we left the dancing to the professionals.

We had a blast and this was the second time we had the honor of doing this performance number of "Resident Evil" with "BurlEscapades', Sable Switch".  "BurlEscapades" is a wonderful and entertaining group of hardworking and amazing talent.  "Sable Switch" is so very outstanding and she is just Out Of This World!

We had such an exhilarating night at PCC, "Talk Nerdy to Me: a Byte of Burlesque".
It was so fabulous to get to do this number with "Sable Switch", to be honest, we were really quite sad when it was over, because we had such a great time performing with her.  It was very fun and we hope to be able to do more with the lively engaging group, "BurlEscapades".

We Love You, "Sable Switch" and "BurlEscapades"!

UZA and Synyster Syn Founder, Sydoney A.A. Banks
is going to school to become a cosmetologist.

This whole school thing is all very new and different to me.  I know it is not easy, but I know that not anything that is worth having is always easy to attain.  I am scared most of the time of failing and not being good at cosmetology, but I do not want to give up because I am not a quitter.  I have seen so many people just quit and give up on their life, their dreams, their goals and so much more.  I know, I do not want to be like them and always have regrets and feel like a failure in life.  School is tough and it is a lot to take in and understand especially when you have a learning disability.  When you have a learning disability, everything is a lot more difficult to grasp and understand it is not easy and I have to work very hard at it.  If you have any kind of learning disability, it does not mean that you are in anyway less intelligent than anyone else it just means that you learn differently.  I still have problems with that, because I forget that others learn easier than I do and that I learn differently than they do, so I feel less intelligent even though I may be more intelligent than others who have fewer or no problems learning things.  In school, it is hard to see others getting good grades and doing really well, and I am barely passing, but I have to remember that I am working 20 times harder because my brain processes how I do things differently.  I am happy for my fellow students and I am amazed on how well they do what they do.  I just have to remember what my goal is and how to hold on to it and keep on trucking.  I have to remember and understand that I cannot compare myself to them, I can only compare me to myself and try to keep improving and doing better than I did the last time I attempted to do whatever it is that I am now doing.  I love my current school, the fantastic staff, the students, and the class I am in, they are all amazing.  My teacher is really one of a kind, very old school yet up on how we all learn in varied ways, and I am so very thankful for her.  This is a big step on my way to my dreams and I cannot let anyone stop me, including myself.  I had a fun time with the last hair show competition it was fun and different for me.  I did the makeup and I have never done anything like that before, so it was stressful and scary, but I did it and it all came out very good.  I was not 100% happy with it, but there is always room for improvement.  The fact is I did it, I had fun, and I learned from it.  I know that by pushing yourself, it is the only way to be challenged and to improve yourself.  Try new things and be opened up to the unknown. My team was amazing and we did a terrific job.
I am so proud of all of us.
